This policy explains what information we collect on this website and in the Big Rig Butler app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language. It is a starting policy, and we will update it as the app and its features change.
What we collect
On this website
- Waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we save your email address, the date, and a short tag for where you came from (for example, a link from a video or a group). We do not ask for your name.
- Basic technical data. Our web host and database provider may log standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type to keep the service running and secure.
In the app (when it launches)
- Account. Your email address and sign-in details, and the date and version of the terms you agreed to. We use email sign-in links and a required authenticator app code, and we do not store passwords.
- Truck profile. Truck size, weights, hazmat settings and routing preferences you enter or import from a scale ticket.
- Trip and work records you enter. Saved destinations (kept on your phone and in your account so a new phone gets them back), notes, hours-of-service entries, fuel purchases and miles by state, and bill of lading details. We also count how many bill of lading scans you use each month, to apply the free plan limit.
- Problem reports. If you tap "Report a problem", we save what you wrote with the app version, your phone model, system version and the screen you were on, so we can fix it. We do not add your location.
- Community reports. Parking reports, delivery location notes, dock ratings and road hazard reports. Other drivers see these without your name or email. Drivers can report a delivery location note they think is wrong or abusive; we keep those reports to review notes, and a note that several drivers report is hidden from other drivers.
- Location. The app uses your phone's GPS only while the app is open, and only after you tap a button such as "Use my location" and allow it. It uses your position to show where you are, to start a route from there, and to find the nearest repair or tire shops. It never tracks you in the background. When you send a road report with "Use my location" turned on, the latitude and longitude are saved with that report in your account. Road reports are not shown to other drivers yet; when they are, the place may be shown without your name or email, and we will update this policy first. The address of a shop search is sent to Google to find shops near you. You can turn location off at any time in your phone settings.
- Payment information. Billing is not available yet. When it is, card details will be handled by a payment processor and not stored by us.
How we use it
- To email you about the app launch and early pricing (waitlist).
- To run the app: sign you in, plan truck-aware routes, keep your records, and show community reports.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To follow the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use service providers who handle data for us and may only use it to provide their service:
- Supabase, which hosts our database, sign-in and server functions.
- Resend, an email service we use to send a notice to our own support mailbox when someone joins the waitlist. The notice contains the email address you entered.
- Google Maps, which supplies map and satellite images for delivery locations. The address you look up is sent to Google.
- Anthropic, only when you scan a bill of lading with the app. The document you choose is sent for reading and the fields come back for you to review. We do not keep the image.
- A truck routing provider (Trimble PC*Miler is planned) when route calculation is turned on. It receives the stops and truck details needed to plan a route.
- A payment processor once billing opens.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to remove them or the waitlist ends.
- Account records are kept while your account is open. Hours-of-service and fuel records may be kept longer where a rule requires it (for example, six months for hours-of-service logs and four years for fuel tax records).
- Parking reports are shown to other drivers for only a short time after they are posted.
Your choices
- You can ask to see, correct, export or delete the information we hold about you, or ask to be removed from the waitlist, at any time by writing to us at the address below. You can also delete your whole account yourself in the app (Settings > Delete my account) or by following the steps on this page; that erases the information saved in your account.
- If you live in California or another state with a privacy law, you have the rights that law gives you. We will not treat you worse for using them.
Security
We protect data with encrypted connections, access rules in the database so each driver can only reach their own records, and required two-step sign-in in the app. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection.
Children
The app and website are for adults who drive trucks for work. They are not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new date. For significant changes, we will also tell waitlist members and app users by email.
